N2 - This paper covers several areas, or rather several aspects, of teaching a foreign language, namely English, at tertiary level. In the case the paper investigates, the students are university teachers, or better to say “research and teaching staff”, because it is the official policy that university teachers/lecturers have to combine research and educational activities. First, audience characteristics, which highlight specific requirements (language level, experience of research work and lecturing, etc.) should be considered. Second, it is necessary to contemplate differences in approaches to lecturing, tutorials, and writing papers in academic cultures. Third, to be registered a syllabus for a training course has to be in accord with administrative restrictions to continuous professional development.
