As examples of applying the formulas from part I we examine scattering in a one-dimensional medium for which all the characteristics of the radiative field are expressed in terms of elementary functions and (three-dimensional) isotropic monochromatic scattering. Some properties of the Ambartsumyan function are studied and the asymptotes of the average numbers of photon scattering events in an optically thick plane layer are derived. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
