Simultaneous CE enantioseparation of tartaric and malic acids using bare fused silica capillary was demonstrated. The combination of dual central metal ion-d-quinic acid system with hexadecyltrimethylammonium based dynamic coating was examined. The background electrolyte contained 100 mM d-quinic acid, 10 mM Cu(II), 0.5 mM Al(III) and 0.5 mM hexadecyltrimethylammonium hydroxide (pH 5.0). The running conditions were -25 kV at 20 A degrees C with direct photometric detection at 250 nm. The analysis time was less than 8 min. Chiral separation of dl-tartaric and dl-malic acids in wines was demonstrated.
