The paper presents the results of electron microscope studies of parchment of Old Russian manuscripts from the collection of the Russian National Library. The stratified distribution of elements over the thickness of parchment revealed by energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis allows to identify technological features involved in producing this material medium of textual monuments. Treatment with calcium-based compounds, egg white, pumice, salt, alumina sand, etc., was determined.
