In 2019-2022 the left movement of Uruguay survived two defeats. In the general elections of 2019, a coalition of right-wing forces won, returning 15 years later to power in the country. In March 2022, a referendum organized by the Broad Front coalition was held to overturn the most controversial decisions of the current government, in which the position of the left was supported by a minority. The purpose of this article is to determine the features of the current state of the left movement in Uruguay. Based on media materials party and state documents, and statistical data, it is shown how the structure of the Uruguayan left has changed in recent years, and the reasons for their electoral failures are analyzed. Through the analysis of political and social trends, the method of expert assessments, the article presents scenarios for the actions of the left forces in the next electoral cycle. The author draws a conclusion about the personnel and ideological problems of the left forces, considers the place and role of the "Broad Front" coalition in the modern left movement in the context of political polarization. Attention is paid to the regional and global context, namely the influence of foreign policy conditions on the program and agenda of the Uruguayan left.
