Thermally curable silicone rubber systems are known. In general, typical curing systems consist of mixtures of organic peroxide and
polysiloxanes with unsaturated groups. In this work, our silicone curing system differs from well-known systems by virtue of the fact
that it uses polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) as an additive and the source of the SiH and it deals with a liquid silicone rubber
system rather than a high consistency rubber. Dibenzoyl peroxide and azobisisobutyronitrile were used as free-radical initiators for
thermal curing of trivinylsilyl-terminated polymethylhydrosiloxane (PDMS-v).
Mechanisms of peroxide curing of polysiloxanes is commonly described in ref.[1] Typical organic peroxides such as dibenzoyl
peroxide cure polysiloxanes in accordance with the mechanisms of "vinyl-to-methyl" and "vinyl-to-vinyl". In the studied PDMSv/PMHS systems a noticeably acceleration of curing is observed and can be explained by the formation of cross-links for a relatively
short period of time by the mechanism of radical hydrosilylation as well as in case of radical hydrosilylation between monomeric
compounds. [2] The bettered cure can be used to either reduce the time required to cure a material and concentration of curing agent at
the same temperature, or to reduce the temperature required for a given time. Cured samples obtained with the addition of PMHS
have improved mechanical properties. So, the results of this study can be useful for industrial manufacture of polymers.
