N2 - In order to predict and control possible negative impacts of dredging on coastal ecosystems on the new ports construction sites, the maps of ecological sensitivity of the Eastern Gulf of Finland are constructed. Phytoplankton, zooplankton, macro-algae, higher aquatic vegetation ("macrophytes"), benthic invertebrates (macro-zoobenthos), fish (eggs, young, adults), birds and marine mammals (seals) are considered as the basic components of the coastal ecosystems. Data on spatial and seasonal distribution of the groups of organisms listed above were used to assess the integral sensitivity of the coastal zone of the Eastern Gulf of Finland to dredging. According to the research results, the main types of dredging impacts on coastal ecosystems are: (1) direct soil motion (excavation and dumping of dredged material), and (2) increase of the concentration of suspended material in the water. The general analysis of the constructed maps has shown that the sensitivity of the Gulf of Finland to dumping and dredging is higher in Spring than in Summer. Obtained data allows assessing the impact of dredging work on the environment in coastal areas contributed to sustainable management of the Eastern Gulf of Finland due to modernization of port territories and navigation channels and creation new artificial territories for further construction works. The work was carried out in frames of the Federal Target Program "Investigations and Elaborations on Principal Directions of the Development of Priority Directions of Scientific-Technological Complex of Russia for 2014-2020 years" of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation, unique identification number RFMEFI57414X0091.
