The method of immunoenzyme analysis was used to determine the content of IAA, ABA, and cytokinins in organs of corn seedlings (Zea mays L.) from 2 to 5 days old. In seedlings of all ages, maximum content of IAA was observed in the apical part of the coleoptile, which is characterized by active growth by elongation. Dividing cells and cells with completed growth were characterized by a lower level of IAA. Slowing of growth of the coleoptile and mesocotyl was accompanied by increase in the level of ABA in them. Cytokinin content was correlated with the rate of cell division. It is concluded that regulation of cell division and elongation in organs of corn seedlings is realized through changes in the specific ratio of phytohormones in each organ.
