The article considers the main stages in the study of history of the early modern period inRussian historiography from the era of Peter the Great to the present day. At the centerof attention are influence of foreign historical schools and public concepts. The points ofview of Russian historians are studied mainly with reference to the example of the historicalschools of St. Petersburg and Moscow.
