Naming practices are products of the culture in which they are used [Bramwell]. This paper reports on a project which investigated major socio-cultural factors and recent trends in the Scottish anthroponymic praxis. Data for analysis were obtained through a qualitative online survey conducted in January 2017. The survey findings were then juxtaposed to the lists of the most popular baby names in Scotland published by the National Records of Scotland annually. The research results are indicative of two competing socio-cultural trends in the anthroponymic praxis duly reflected in the Scottish anthroponomasticon.
