The authors describe experimental studies involving the creation of shock-waves in air using a pulsed laser. Trajectories of shock waves that arise upon creation of a 'laser spark' in air and upon rupture of a metallic tip are investigated. The Mach numbers of the initiated shock waves and the time profiles of the pressure behind the shock wave are given.
