This article deals with the problems of Modern Russian literature translations in Mongolia at the end of the 20th – beginning of the 21st cent. During more than 100 years translations of classical Russian literature were of great importance in this country. Almost all great novels, stories, poems and verses were translated from Russian to Mongolian. Literary critics and scholars consider, that Russian literature has greatly enriched Mongolian literary works and continues to have a significant impact on the modern literary process in Mongolia.
One of the most famous translators of Modern Russian literature in Mongolia today is Onongin Chinbayar (born 1971). He is a currently Chairman of the Mongolian Translators Union. In 2019 at the Department of Publishing and Book Science at Moscow Polytechnic University, he successfully defended his thesis “Edition of Russian Writers of the 20th century in Mongolia”. Among his translation works one can mention novels by Sasha Sokolov, Andrey Platonov, Gaito Gazdanov, stories by Sergey Dovlatov and many others.
