This study presents an approach to classification of water body based on the authors’ concept of Ecological Status (ES) and the results of its integrated assessment. The methodology is backed by the ASPID (Analysis and Synthesis of Parameters under Information Deficiency) framework for constructing integral indicators within classification models for assessing ecological status. The Integral Ecological Status Indicator (IESI) incorporates some sub-indices: Trophic Status (TSI), Water Quality and Toxic Pollution (WQTPI), and Water Body Resilience (WBRI). The paper presents assessment scales for these sub-indices by five ES classes, IESI scales, a classification system (covering 125 types), examples of integrated assessment results for three classification models under varying assumptions. In order to consider ES in terms of anthropocentric and ecocentric perspectives, the work formulates hypotheses to be tested. Results of such tests are presented for two scenarios: "eco- centrism" and "anthropocentrism", differentiated by orientation of assessment scales in the WBRI. The article introduces a novel approach to integral assessment of water body resilience (WBRI sub-index). It applies two sub-indices (WBRIa and WBRIr) that represent two types of resilience (adaptational and regenerational), with due account to seasonal dominance. These sub-indices cover 1- morphometric, 2-climatic, and 3-hydrological parameters. The resilience assessment scenario also takes into account type of relationships (direct or inverse). The study concludes with classification of water bodies under the "eco-centrism" scenario based on integral indicators of ecological status.
