The article is dedicated to the creative works of one of the most famous Turkish writers of XX century Bilge Karasu (1930-1995), and olso to the analysis of his probably the most unique work, the fairy-tale novel “The Garden of Departed Cats”. While examining the structure and the composition of the novel, its main idea and its theme, the author of the article draws parallels to the prominent literary masterpieces of the XX century, retracing possible processes of the leading Western novelists’ influence to the creative work of Karasu. It’s particularly pointed out that this parable novel, probably, for the first time in Turkish literature, combines the motifs, aesthetic moves and formal methods, typical both for traditional Islamic literatures and for the Postmodern European literature. The presented article is written upon the personal observations and impressions, gotten by the author while working on the Russian translation of the novel “The Garden of Departed Cats”.
