Abstract: Results are presented from an analysis of data on the precipitation of high-energy magnetospheric electrons into the atmosphere and their impact on the concentration of nitrogen oxide NO in the atmosphere at altitudes of 64–90 km. Series of data on precipitation recorded on balloons at the Apatity polar station (Murmansk region) in the period 2002–2012 and results from NO measurements with the SCIAMACHY spectrometer installed onboard the European ENVISAT satellite are used. The response of variations in the concentration of nitrogen oxides to individual events of the precipitation of high-energy electrons and the average response to all events recorded in the atmosphere in 2002–2012 are considered.
