N2 - We analyze the Maxwell equations for light propagation in a cylindrical waveguide acousto-optically modulated by plane elastic wave. Using the small parameter of acousto-optic interaction we obtain the dispersion equation explicitly through the matrix determinant. Numeric analysis of this determinant reveals the band-gap structure of the spectrum. We also discuss the regime where light propagating in a fibre radiates into the cladding.
