N2 - © 2016 IEEE.In this paper a stability criterion for the linear time-invariant neutral type equation with a single delay is presented. The criterion states that the equation is exponentially stable if and only if the delay Lyapunov matrix (this is a scalar function in the considered case) is positive at zero and achieves the maximal absolute value at this point. Based on the criterion, we obtain a sufficient stability condition for the quasi-linear neutral type equation.
