The article deals with the influence of the two legal corporations (the Inns of Court, representing Common law, and the Doctors' Commons, representing Civil law) on the methods of history-writing. Due to systematization of Common law practices, based on legal precedents, a concept of "fact" has appeared. English civil lawyers based their knowledge on a dynamic system of texts that provided a successful reception of the Roman law in different historical and cultural circumstances. Legal developments and the rise of administrative institutions was explained as a dynamic and continuous process.
