N2 - Public commitment of the new President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro for a pro-American policy, as also his eagerness to cooperate closely with the United States in many international issues, the recognition by the current Brazilian government of Juan Guaido as President of Venezuela, and also the plans of Donald Trump to provide Brazil with the status of the NATO ally, are evidences of the strengthening of centrifugal trends in the BRICS. For Russia and China, the economic and political unity of the BRICS members is of fundamental importance and is associated with the establishment of multipolarity in international relations, the assertion of the principles of non-interference in internal affairs, the respect for sovereignty, rejection of unilateral actions and multilateralism, which are also central provisions of the Eurasian integration agenda. The article discusses the factors contributing to centrifugal trends in BRICS in the Latin American dimension. The main factor, according to the author, is the slowdown in economic growth in certain BRICS countries, which contributes to the reorientation of cooperation with key trade and economic partners and global geopolitical instability, contributes to the weakening of traditional multilateral formats and to the emergence of unilateral actions and initiatives. Brazil has found itself in the epicenter of these factors and the effectiveness of the BRICS format largely depends on its foreign policy.
