The microbiological and molecular genetic characteristics of S. pneumoniae strains, identified during nasopharyngeal carriage, were determined in patients from the age of 6 months up to 85 years old, living in Yakutsk. The obtained data indicate the prevalence of virulent antibiotic-resistant S. pneumoniae strains among the population of Yakutsk and dictate the need for further epidemiological and microbiological studies of this problem.
