The article considers grammatical and lexical transformations used to translate from English into Russian the non-standard combinatorics of the intensifier so in the modern English. The study has shown that so is most frequently used to express qualitative intensification, and to transfer the intensifier’s expressive potential a translator usually should perform a series of transformations. The paper identifies a speaker’s communicative intentions realized by the non-traditional combinatorics of the intensifier so.
