The article deals with actualization of conceptual characteristics of REAL in American sociopolitical discourse in relation to the value of LEADERSHIP and communicants» vision of optimal foreign policy for the USA. It is shown that coordinated efforts of different readers, writing comments in the on-line newspapers, cause a shift in characteristic salience for REAL, putting forward the idea of pragmatism.
