The article is devoted to analysis of the perception of the antique statue of Hermaphrodite in Spanish culture and art of the seventeenth century. Plaster cast of an antique statue was commissioned by Velázquez during his second trip to Italy. Already in Spain bronze casting was commissioned. The statue of Hermaphrodite enjoyed the admiration of art lovers and yard. The pagan content of the image didn't interfere with his high aesthetic evaluation.
