The article presents an analysis of the data concerning the personnel numbers in the Baltic fleet and the party purges carried out in the mid-1930s. The author explores the mechanism of party purges and the structure of the inquiry boards in order to establish the reasons for the quantitative and qualitative change in the results of the party purges from year to year. In conclusion, an attempt is made to determine the scope of the purges and their effect on the state of the fleet at the time and on its further development.
