Short historical essay on the Department of Entomology of the St. Petersburg State University is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the department. The essay opens a series of publications of the department staff in this issue of journal dedicated to this remarkable date. The history of organization of this department and the principal events in the 100 years of its existence are briefly described.
