The rapid industrial growth of the Victorian era and aesthetic preferences of the time led to the flourishing of architectural ceramics. The article examines both secular and religious buildings in the historical and cultural context. Special emphasis has been placed on the activities of W. J. Nitby (1860-1910) during his time at "Doulton and Co".
