This article is devoted to the analysis of the problem of responsibility for crimes against faith in the Russian Empire of the XIX - early XX centuries. The task of the article is to characterize this type of crime against faith as blasphemy. In the Russian Empire XIX - early XX century. "primacy" among religious institutions was the Orthodox Church. Therefore, the person who committed blasphemy was persecuted by the state with all the rigor of the laws.
