Afferents of vagal and spinal nature represent information ways that convey sensory information from the visceral organs to the central nervous system. Sensitive terminals of these afferents are activated by various stimuli and transform them to electric signals. The aim of the present work is to summarize our present understanding of the structure and functions of visceral mechanosensitive fibers of lung, heart, gastrointestinal tract, kidney, bladder and urethra, and their ion channels.
