Trotsky in the Canadian port of Halifax on his way to Russia and to his arrival in Petrograd on May 4, 1917. The publications of such newspapers as «Pravda», «Rabochaya gazeta», «Izvestya Petrogradskogo Sovieta rabochikh i soldatskikh deputatov», «Edinstvo», «Den’», «Volya naroda», «Delo naroda», «Novaya Zhizn’» are considered. Special attention is paid to the publication activity on these issues «Pravda» and «Rabochaya gazeta». As a result, the authors concludes that the abundance of materials placed on the topic of detention of emigrants in Halifax, the formation of a positive Image of Trotsky had a number of reasons. In addition to party solidarity, the Bolsheviks were guided by the prospect of cooperation with Trotsky upon his arrival in Petrograd, the opportunity to rehabilitate through this news the group of V.I. Lenin, who passed through Germany, to agitate for his program (against imperialism outside and within the country). The interest in Trotsky from the Mensheviks should probably be explained by the influence of the internationalist RSDRP Petrograd Organization, the increased attention to the issue of the return of emigrants due to the unclear situation of L. Martov, P.B. Axelrod and other Mensheviks in Switzerland. The arrival of L.D. Trotsky was noticed only by «Pravda», «Novaya Zhizn’» and, latently, «Delo naroda». The authors concludes that ignoring the arrival of the «Rabochaya gazeta» reflected the process of drifting the editorial office towards the coalition government, because the arrival of E. Vandervelde was not missed, although he and Trotsky arrived in the same car of the train.
