For the first time the microwave technique has been used for ground-based remote measurements of ozone profiles over St. Petersburg. The microwave ozonometer has been purchased by St. Petersburg State University in the frame of the innovation grant of the National program Education. Main characteristics of the ozonometer and the algorithms used for the interpretation of downward microwave radiation spectra are described. Examples of the derived ozone profiles in the altitude range 20-60 km are presented
