The article deals with the question of the renaming of the city of Leningrad in 1991. Under public pressure, the authorities made a decision that the city has to be renamed and the historical name of St. Petersburg was returned to the city. For the first time in this article were introduced a number of sources which showed the reflection and participation of public organizations and independent television programs in the renaming of the city.
