The report reviews displaying of individual and professional features of author’s personality in the language of a non-fiction text. Russian travel notes of the XIX century prove that the combined processes that scientific and exploring activity was accompanied
by the formation of the language of science description. The usage of different style language units, peculiarities of text formation and
text commenting demonstrate the process of language material selection for the purpose of scientific description.
