The authors analyze the conception of the development of the territory of the Russian State by Alexander Solovyov (1890-1971) - scholar of the legal history. Particular attention is paid to the original Solovyov's approach to the analysis of the history of territorial growth of Russia. Also are applied categories of the Black and White, and the Great and the Little Rus'. The most relevant scientific concept acquires meaning the territory of the state as the political-legal and sociocultural space.
