The work identified the following new challenges for the Chinese economy: a slowdown in economic growth,
an insufficient share in global value chains, the problem of a disproportionate development of the country's regions. Faced
with new challenges, the Chinese authorities have begun to take steps to develop digital technologies domestically. This
will allow China to maintain the pace of economic growth, change the structure of the economy, the country's place in
the GVC and become a global technology leader. The new concept of "double circulation" will ensure the development
of domestic demand in China, including for digital technologies, which will allow China to produce more goods with
high added value. The case study of Taobao villages has shown the effectiveness of digitalization even in rural areas.
According to the authors, the development of e-commerce in rural areas in China has good potential for solving the above
problems of the development of the Chinese economy and has a positive effect.
