The monograph was written by the staff of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Methods of Teaching it at the Faculty of Philology of Saint Petersburg State University. Kira Rogova is the author of the monograph and the project manager, Dr.Sc. of Philology, Professor. K. Rogova is the editor-in-chief of the journal «The World of the Russian Word». The team of authors includes Kira Anatolyevna Rogova, Daria Vladimirovna Kolesova, Tatiana Igorevna Popova, Olga Vitalievna Khorokhordina, Natalia Vasilyevna Shkurina, Irina Mikhailovna Voznesenskaya, Irina Aleksandrovna Gonchar. The authors of the monograph proceed from the fact that the unit forming the functional and semantic type of speech is a sentence. Its structure is considered as a form of expression of meaning, determined by the semantics and communicative organization of the sentence. Utterances of the same semantic-communicative type, the same functional-semantic type of speech are considered both in primary and secondary speech genres. The content center of the monograph is the chapters devoted to description and narration. The reasoning is presented in the monograph by explanation, argumentation and instruction.
