This article discusses the compositional originality of the play with historical plot of the “Clara Gazul Theatre” by P. Merimee, whose importance for the formation of the French romantic drama has been underestimated in the literary science of Russia and France. For by the same author is firmly fixed to the submission of a disciple of Stendhal, under whose dictation he wrote his “Theatre”. The purpose of article is in refutation of sustainable stereotypes.
