In this article, the author turns to the study of the genre features of the unstudied “Portrait of Giovanni della Volta with his Wife and Children” (1547) by Lorenzo Lotto (1480-1557) from the collection of the National Gallery in London. Based on the iconographic analysis, the author offers to consider the hypothesis that the viewer sees not just a portrait, but an intergenre work or a “mixed genre” work.
