The article presents results of the studing the influence of public, political, and media narratives on the topic of immigrant neighbourhoods and their residence. Also, the processes of spatial and ethnic segregation in Swedish cities are considered. For the field case-study, the neighbourhoods of Rinkeby, Stockholm, Rosengård, and Malmö have been selected. Results of the study can be formulated in three points. First, interaction of the media and public opinion results in formation of the negative image of neighbourhoods and subsequent phenomenon of the “white avoidance”. Second, as a result of persistence, interaction of housing, and legal systems features, the immigrants have limited opportunities on the housing and labour markets.Third, isolation of the neighbourhoods occurs not only from the higher-status ones, but, also, the ones with a similar population profile and image.
