Ariadna Alexandrovna Petrova has been teaching and conducting scientific
activities at the Department of Modern and Contemporary History since December
1971. A ticket to scientific life for A. A. Petrova was a candidate dissertation «Cuban
Revolutionary Party and its role in the development of the national liberation movement
in Cuba». which was highly appreciated by the Soviet and Cuban press. A. A. Petrova’s
subsequent activity at the Department is closely related to the history of Spain and
Latin America, which she taught to students. She is the author of a number of scientific
studies on Russian-Spanish relations, the problems of colonial America, the history of
military campaigns of 1810–1826 etc. The anniversary of A. A. Petrova in 2022 is an
occasion to recall the rich history of teaching and studying Spanish and Latin American
subjects at the Department of Modern and Contemporary History.
