Objective. To study features of senile asthenia syndrome and its components in patients referred to routine surgical treatment of aortic diseases. In the elderly and senile age, the problem of aortic pathology occupies a special place, because the aorta as an independent organ at this age has its own characteristics. Methods. The study was conducted in 2015-2018 within the international study «GIRAFFE - Gerontological International Research Against Frailty: Fit Experience». The study included 159 patients. The mean age of the patients was 67.3 + 3.2 years. The patients were graded according to the aortic pathology segments, which were operated on, as according to some sources, there are differences during the postoperative period in these groups of patients. At the same time, there are no works discussing differences in the dynamics of geriatric status in patients depending on the operated aorta segment. The study used a combination of methods, the geriatric status of the patients was evaluated according to the original program «Specialized Geriatric Examination». Results. The geriatric profile of patients admitted for surgical treatment of aortic pathology is characterized by the absence of senile asthenia, the presence of senile disruption (approximately 50%) due to the presence of geriatric syndromes associated with the musculoskeletal system (dynapenia, sarcopenia) and moderate cognitive impairment. In elderly patients, the pre-operative senility causes the deterioration of geriatric status in the postoperative period. Moreover, changes in geriatric status occur during the first month after surgery. Interpretation. Aortic surgery in elderly patients is considered risky due to the possible development of acute functional deficiency. In this case, the main forms of acute functional deficiency in the postoperative period are postoperative delirium and fall syndrome. The senile asthenia before surgery on the abdominal segment of the aorta is an independent risk factor for acute functional deficiency in the early postoperative period in this category of patients.
