The article presents the main tendencies prevalent in reconstruction of the figure of Socrates, its reception and interpretation within the limits of the Middle Ages. The principal stress is laid on the Western European Latin speaking culture with the tradition of Arab mediaeval philosophy to add. Attention is drawn to the fact that taking into account all the discrepancies between these cultures we have to admit that they are strangely unanimous in their treatment of Socrates: in both cases he is considered as a moral authority first of all.
