This study, analyzing the evidence from the Scientific Archives of IIMK RAS, succeeded to instantiate certain moments in the history of archaeological investigation of the well known Yaroslavl cemeteries of the early mediaeval period. The article demonstrates the role of the Yaroslavl Province Statistic Committee and Yaroslavl Scientific Archive Commission in local studies reveals the names of unknown earlier researchers and defines the complexes of burials studied before the events of 1917.
