The article discusses psychological aspects of both stable and dynamic components of motivation, as well as cognitive dissonance in sports. It emphasizes the fundamental importance of adequacy of goal achieving criteria to athlete’s functional resources. Motivational attitudes are considered from the viewpoint of external and internal motivation as the criteria for successful sports activity.
