Metagenomic investigation of the intestinal microbiota of rats before and after induction ofdysbiosis by injection of ampicillin and metronidazole revealed an increased population of proteobacteria containing in the cell wall lipopolysaccharides, and reduction of faecalibacteria producing butyrate. A significant dose-dependent effect of these metabolites on the contractile activity of the rectum in vitro system was found, which may explain the change in intestinal motility in dysbiotic conditions.
