Taking as an example On the French Land (1945), a series of essays by the French writer of Russian origin Gaito Gazdanov, this article examines the dual nature of documentary prose. It focuses on its genre specificity, as well as the synthesis of fiction and non-fiction. The article highlights some unexplored aspects of Gazdanov's intertextuality.
