The article jointly written by a pathophysiologist, an endocrinologist and a professional popular science writer analyzes the methodology of patients’ education, especially the spectrum of teaching literature, designed for people with primary diabetes mellitus, and compares current periodicals in the field. It covers the period from the late 80s to the present time. The main trends are discussed, namely marked involvement in this area of major domestic commercial publishers in and the growing number of published books (unfortunately, not always of proper quality). Authors discuss the content of patient educating books and popular science medical journals (33 refs).
