The article is devoted to Roman high roads of the period of the Republic and the Empire. In this connection the paper analyzes ancient sources, the technology of Roman road building, motives for the building, instructions for the use, influence of the developed road system on the state economy and foreign policy. By the example of Boudica’s revolt the article justifies a thesis that the Roman developed road system along with positive consequences for the state had also negative ones.
