Modern multiplayer online games (MMORPGs) are special social and communicative spaces. At the same time, they are associated with the «real», non-game world, and relatively independent. The paper presents the results on the study of the social competencies of MMORPG players that demonstrate the features of interpersonal relations, group solidarity, emotional aspects of social interaction. These competencies can be the foundations for the further formation of trends in social escapism or social creativity.
