The development of crime control policy must take into account opinions of scholars who do research work in the areas of criminal law and criminology. Current study addresses whether academics' views on the nature of crime and goals of punishment fall under one of the several ideologies of crime control. Results point to the fact that there the clear-cut division is absent. Criminologists' views are not always consistent. Data shows that the variance in attitudes is not related to gender, age, socio-economic status, professional experience or respondent's views about safety. Paper concludes with the possible explanations of the results obtained.
