In the article, relying on modern methodologies, the formand meaning-forming role of intertext in the process of M. Gorky's modeling of reality in the novel “The Life of Klim Samgin” is partially comprehended. It is established that in the artistic system of the novel intertext is one of the main forms and sense-forming elements and it interacts with other elements, forms its invisible foundation and appears in different forms.
